Where is Stripe Supported?

Help! I cannot find Stripe as a payment method: The Stripe gateway will only show as available in countries where Shopify Payments is not supported, otherwise, you will notice that it replaces Stripe. If you would like to use Stripe and you are in a country (like Australia) that already supports Shopify Payments - you will not be able to use Stripe unless you reach out to your support representative and request it be activated on your account. This is usually done case-by-case.

The rest of the article assumes Stripe can be enabled on your account or you are from a country that does not support Shopify Payments.

What is Stripe?

Stripe is a payment processing company that offers businesses an easy way to accept credit and debit card payments online. Shopify has integrated Stripe into its platform, making it one of the easiest ways to accept payments on your Shopify store.

Setting up Stripe in Shopify

Setting up Stripe Payments on Shopify is simple and only takes a few minutes. Just follow these steps:

1. Log in to your Shopify admin panel and go to Settings > Payment methods.

2. Under the Accept credit cards section, click Add payment method.

3. Select Stripe from the list of available payment gateways.

4. Enter your Stripe account details, then click Activate Stripe.

Note: if you do not see Stripe as an option it is most likely because it is disabled in your region.

And that's it! You've now successfully set up Stripe Payments on your Shopify store.

There are many benefits to using Stripe Payments as your Shopify payment gateway. For starters, Stripe is one of the most popular and widely-used payment processors in the world. This means that your customers are likely already familiar with using Stripe, which can make for a smoother checkout experience.

Supported Payment Methods

Stripe Payments supports a wide range of payment methods, including credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and more. This gives your customers the flexibility to pay how they want, which can help increase sales.

Additional Payment Methods

Applepay and Google Pay are also both accepted through Stripe, which can further streamline the checkout process for your customers. In addition, Stripe has built-in fraud protection tools that can help you keep your store safe from fraudulent orders.

How does Fraud Protection work in Stripe?

Fraud Protection in Stripe is a set of tools that help you identify and prevent fraudulent orders. When an order is placed, Stripe will analyze it for signs of fraud. If any signs of fraud are detected, the order will be flagged and you'll be notified so that you can take appropriate action.

There are two main types of fraud protection tools available in Stripe: manual review and automatic blocking.

Manual review is where you manually review each order that's been flagged as potentially fraudulent. This allows you to use your own discretion to decide whether or not to accept or cancel the order. Automatic blocking is where orders that are deemed to be fraudulent are automatically canceled and the customer is notified. This can help to prevent chargebacks and other problems associated with fraudulent orders.

To enable Fraud Protection in Stripe, just go to your Shopify admin panel and navigate to Settings > Payment methods. Under the Accept credit cards section, click Edit next to Stripe. Then, check the box next to Enable Fraud Protection.

Now that you know how to set up and use Stripe Payments on your Shopify store, let's take a look at some of the other features that this payment gateway offers.

How does Stripe compare to Shopify Payments?

Shopify Payments is Shopify's own payment gateway, and it's a great option for many Shopify stores. However, there are some key differences between Shopify Payments and Stripe that you should be aware of.

For starters, Shopify Payments is only available to stores that are based in the United States, Canada, Australia, or the United Kingdom. Stripe, on the other hand, is available to businesses in over 40 countries.

Another key difference is that Shopify Payments charges a transaction fee of 2%, while Stripe doesn't charge any transaction fees. Instead, Stripe charges a flat rate of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. This can make a big difference if you're processing a lot of transactions, as the fees can add up quickly.

Finally, Shopify Payments offers a few features that Stripe doesn't, such as Shopify Pay and Shopify Checkout. Shopify Pay is a feature that allows customers to save their payment information so that they can checkout faster in the future. Shopify Checkout is an accelerated checkout process that allows customers to checkout without having to enter their shipping address or contact information. Overall, Stripe Payments is a great option for Shopify stores looking for a reliable and easy-to-use payment gateway.
